Lagniappe HistoryThe Lagniappe Dulcimer Society was organized in the fall of 1997 after a group of our members took an LSU Leisure Class which taught the Mountain Dulcimer. This class was taught by Maylee Samuels. When the class ended, the students decided that the only way to stay motivated and advance their skills was to start a group that could meet regularly and jam. The rest is history. Much to our surprise, our first meeting in February of 1998 was well attended. Many of the founding members are still active in our group to this day. The Lagniappe Dulcimer Society has a membership of more than 70 musicians. We are still growing as we share our love for the mountain dulcimer with the Baton Rouge community at farmers markets, libraries, schools, festivals, museums, nursing homes, senior groups, churches, as well as private gatherings. We would love to include you in our history. Contact us for more information.
